English: Greater Katy is a region in the Houston area, in Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties, including areas with "Katy, Texas" addresses. The City of Katy is only a portion of this area; there are unincorporated areas and areas annexed by the City of Houston in the region. Editors need to confirm where a place actually is, and go strictly according to municipal boundaries in categorizing and recognizing places. See map of the City of Katy. The City of Houston stated in 1996 that: "The U.S. Postal Service establishes ZIP codes and mailing addresses in order to maximize the efficiency of their system, not to recognize jurisdictional boundaries." Therefore editors need to double-check municipal maps and full addresses to confirm that a place is in a municipality or unincorporated area. If a place is categorized as being in "Katy, Texas" and the place is outside the Katy city limits, the category needs to be removed from that media file (with "Greater Katy" added in its place to acknowledge that the location is in the Katy area). Editors also need to periodically check to see if Katy and/or Houston annex any area in their extraterritorial jurisdictions (an area eligible to be annexed by a Texas city), and update categorization accordingly.
