A great mosque or grand mosque exist in every province (34, usually called "Masjid Raya <province name>") and cities (93, usually called "Masjid Raya <city name>") in Indonesia. According to id:Pembicaraan Templat:Masjid di Indonesia, a grand/great mosque doesn't necessarily mean the largest/the main mosque in a province/city/regency, but rather a non-standard term for any large mosque that's close to a en:Alun-alun (either of historical kingdom or colonial or modern province/city/regency's town square) and a kauman (Moslem enclave); these mosques mostly doesn't carry the city/province name. Therefore a province/city may have more than one great mosques. The exact number and list of mosques bearing name 'great'/'grand' is unknown.

National-level mosque such as Istiqlal Mosque and Al-Akbar Mosque (1st and 2nd largest) are also included.
