This church building was built as St. Joseph Roman Catholic church from 1908 to 1909 and served that purpose until it was leased to the Syriac Catholic diocese for its cathedral. The Archdiocese of Newark announced in 2015 that the church would close, and the Syriac Catholic congregation moved to the former St. Michael's church property on East 23rd Street. This church was demolished from 2019 to 2020.
