The Firth of Lorn or Firth of Lorne refers to the waters between the Isle of Mull and Scotland to the east. Within it the government of Scotland has defined the Firth of Lorn Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Where the SAC has definite measurable borders with a calculable area, the firth does not, due to lack of agreement as to where exactly it is. All accounts agree that the coast of Mull or segments of it are in, and that its northeast limit is the union of the Sound of Mull, Loch Linnhe, and the Lynn of Lorn. Oban, Scotland, is therefore roughly on the border. Opinions about how far to the southwest the firth extends vary. The SAC ends at the Garvellachs, with a border to be drawn from Loch Buie, Mull, to the Gulf of Corryvreckan. More traditionally Colonsay is in the mouth of the firth, which would in that case extend southeast to a line between the vicinity of Fionnphort, Mull, to the western coast of Islay. In a second imprecision, it is not certain whether the named waters between the eastern coast of the firth and the islands offshore are also part of the firth. This category contains images that include the maximum extent of the firth.
