Hetty Wainthropp Investigates is a British television series that aired between 1996 and 1998 on BBC One. It was filmed primarily in Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Darwen, Rossendale and other locations in Lancashire. The 1990 film "Missing Persons" can be regarded as the pilot for the series. It was filmed primarily in Worthing and London.
Darwen doubled as the home town of Hetty Wainthropp in the series. She 'lived' in 35 East Park Avenue.
In Burnley the Central Library was used in "Runaways", the town hall and Burnley Wharf in "For Love and Money". Clock Tower Mill (now demolished) was used for the opening credits of each episode. Other places were used as well.
Fleetwood featured prominently in "A High Profile" (1996), especially the area around The Esplanade, the pier, the ferry landing and the boating lake, but also St Mary's Church and Pharos Street.
Slaidburn was the main filming location for "Poison Pen" (1996). The postoffice was used, the area around the war memorial, the church and other parts of Slaidburn.
The Curry Mile in Manchester was the main location for the episode "Serving the Community" (1997).
Kendal, Cumbria, was an important location for "Helping Hansi" (1998).
Staithes doubled as the coastal village of 'Kirkewell' in "Blood Relations" (1998).
