English: The Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) was the main emergency warning system for U.S. radio and TV stations from 1963 into the 1990s. (A different system called CONELRAD was used until 1963.) It was called the Emergency Action Notification System (EANS) before 1983. In the late 1990s, EBS was gradually replaced by the Emergency Alert System, which appears similar to the public but has additional abilities.
