English: The Elginshire was a four-masted steel barque built in 1889 by Birrel, Stenhouse & Co., Dumbarton for T. Law & Co., Glasgow. Dimensions 86,66×12,31×7,48 meters [285'0"×40'5"×24'7"] and tonnage 2160 GRT and 2093 NRT. Rigged with royal sails over double top sails and single topgallant sails. Price GBP 19,800 1923 broken up at Wilhelmshaven.[1]

First captain: Robert Alexander (1831-1894) ex "Stirlingshire". Appointed July 1889, retired August 1891 (Loyd's Captains' Registers). First captain said erroneusly to have been Robert Greig (The Last Of The Windjammers II, Basil Lubbock p.104 ), repeated on <www.bruzelius.info>
