English: Economic was a Whitburn, South Tyneside based bus & coach company (later split in two, but still operating under the single brand) that ran bus services between South Shields and Sunderland. The company was absorbed into the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive in 1975. The Economic brand was revived for a period by Busways, the successor to the PTE, before that company was taken over by Stagecoach, becoming Stagecoach North East. As of 2012 the routes are still numbered with an E-prefix.
