English: Dowan Hill was a four-masted steel barque built in 1893 by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow for J.R. Dickson & Co., Glasgow. She had dimensions of length × beam × depth: 280.7 × 40.4 × 24.5 ft (85.5 × 12.3 × 7.4 m) and tonnage 2115 GRT and 1976 NRT. Dowan Hill was rigged with royals over single topgallant sails. The barque was sold several times. In 1911 sold to Norway and renamed Eugenio Bruno and 1913 re-named in Dowan Hill. 1916 she was renamed Snig. Sunk 1917 by the German submarine U 49 northwest of Ireland at 50°51'N, 12°40'W on voyage from Belfast to St Thomas in ballast.[1]
