English: Contradanza (also called contradanza criolla, danza, danza criolla, or habanera) is the Spanish and Spanish-American version of the contradanse, which was an internationally popular style of music and dance in the 18th century, derived from the English country dance and adopted at the court of France. Contradanza was brought to America and there took on folkloric forms that still exist in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Panama and Ecuador.
Español: La contradanza (también llamada contradanza criolla, danza, danza criolla o habanera) es la versión española o hispanoamericana de la contredanse francesa, la cual fue un popular estilo internacional de música y danza en el siglo XVIII, derivado de la Country Dance inglesa y adoptado en las corte de Francia. La contradanza fue llevada a América y allí adoptó formas criollas que todavía existen en México, Venezuela Colombia, Perú, Panamá y Ecuador.
