The fish fossils collection known as the "Agassiz" collection (820 references, 2500 échantillons) is one of the treasures of the Museum of Natural History of Neuchâtel's collections. It established the fame of Louis Agassiz through two publications he authored: Poissons fossiles du Vieux Grès Rouge (1842-1845) and, the better known of the two, Recherches sur les poissons fossiles (Monograph on Fossil Fish of the Old Red Sandstone, 1833-1843). The later is considered as a reference by current fish paleontologists. Thus researchers throughout the world still refer to this collection nowadays.

La collection de poissons fossiles dites « Agassiz » (820 références, 2500 échantillons) est un des bijoux des collections du Muséum. Elle fit la gloire de Louis Agassiz (1807-1873) grâce aux deux principales publications qu’il écrivit : « Poissons fossiles du Vieux Grès Rouge » (1842-1845) et surtout « Recherches sur les poissons fossiles » (1833-1843). Ce dernier ouvrage est toujours considéré comme incontournable par les spécialistes actuels de poissons fossiles. Ainsi, cette collection est régulièrement consultée par des chercheurs du monde entier.
