Deutsch: Die Sammlung G. & C. Franke umfasst vor allem Drucke und alle Veröffentlichungen zur Rauchwaren- bzw. Pelzbranche im weitesten Sinn.

Die in zwei Generationen zusammengetragene Sammlung diente unter anderem als Grundlage für Veröffentlichungen des Rifra-Verlag, bei dem das weltweit qualitativ bisher unerreichte Fachbuch der Pelzbranche erschien, der sogenannte Fränkel (Franke/Kroll: Jury Fränkel's Rauchwarenhandbuch) sowie die, wie sie sich selbst nannte, Einzig literarisch-humoristische Branchenzeitschrift der Welt - Pelzmotte (erschienen 1958-2008).

In dem Archiv befinden sich unter anderem

  • Durchschriften der zum Teil unveröffentlichten Originalmanuskripte des Berliner Rauchwarenkommissionärs Philipp Manes: Die deutsche Pelzindustrie und ihre Verbände 1900 - 1940. Versuch einer Geschichte. Berlin 1940;
  • sowie des Londoner Rauchwarenhändlers Francis Weiss: From Adam to Madam. A History of Furs und
  • Arbeitsunterlagen des Pelzfachautors und Verlegers Dr. Paul Schöps (* 6. Januar 1895, † Dezember 1986).
Ursprünglich sollte die Sammlung einmal in ein angedachtes Frankfurter Pelzmuseum überführt werden. Nach dem Scheitern dieser Pläne ist ein erheblicher Teil der Sammlung, insbesondere der hier dokumentierten Stücke, inzwischen aufgelöst.

The G. & C. Franke Collection primarily includes prints and all publications on the fur and pelt industries in the broadest sense.

The collection, compiled over two generations, served, among other things, as the basis for publications by Rifra-Verlag, which published the fur industry specialist book, the so-called Fränkel (Franke/Kroll: Jury Fränkel's Smoking Manual) as well as what it called itself, The only literary-humoristic industry magazine in the world - Pelzmotte (published 1958-2008).

The archive contains, among other things:

  • Copies of the partly unpublished original manuscripts of the Berlin fur commission agent Philipp Manes: The German fur industry and its associations 1900 - 1940. Attempt at a history. Berlin 1940;
  • as well as the London fur trader Francis Weiss: From Adam to Madam. A History of Furs and
  • Working documents from the fur specialist author and publisher Dr. Paul Schöps (born January 6, 1895, † December 1986).
The collection was originally supposed to be transferred to a planned fur museum in Frankfurt. After these plans failed, a significant part of the collection, especially the items documented here, has now been dissolved.
