The first Bavarian royal coat of arms was adopted on 1 January 1806 until the introduction of the second royal coat of arms on 20 December 1806. First adopted by King w:Maximilian I Joseph of Bavaria, Prince-Elector of the w:Electorate of Bavaria (as Maximilian IV Joseph) from 1799 to 1806, then the first King of Bavaria (as Maximilian I Joseph) from 1806 to 1825
