The Chaturbhuj temple – sometimes referred to as the Jatkari mandir – is one of the Southern Group of Khajuraho temples and a part of the UNESCO world heritage site. Built about 1100 CE, it is one of the few Hindu temples in Khajuraho that faces west.

The temple, like others, was badly damaged. It has been restored. It consists of a mandapa, antarala and grabhagriya. The outer walls are beautifully carved with Hindu artwork. Of these the panels of Narasimha avatar of Vishnu, Suryanarayana in yoga posture, Shiva, Harihara and others are notable.

Inside the sanctum is the largest surviving statue in Khajuraho. It is of Vishnu, larger than life at 9 feet. He is depicted as standing like Krishna, his right leg behind and resting on toe. He has four arms – Chaturbhuj, but two of these were chopped off centuries ago in an era of temple desecration. Parts of his nose and fingers are also damaged. The elegance of the shilpin's work, nevertheless, still shines through.
