The charge of the Settlement of Singapore, part of the coat of arms of the Straits Settlements (1826–1946). The charge appeared in the first quarter (that is, the top left-hand quarter) of the coat of arms, and consisted of a red background with a gold lion passant guardant (that is, walking with its right fore paw raised, and its head turned to face the viewer) standing on the battlements of a tower. It was described in the blazon of the coat of arms as "gules, issuant from the base a tower proper, on the battlements thereof a lion passant guardant Or".
