The Cedar Bluff Auto Company dated to 1913 under the name of Hartzell Brothers, initially being an auto repair garage. In 1915, E C Glock along with Elmer O and his brother Thomas Hartzell began selling Jackson Automobiles at the firm. In 1916 the auto garage was moved to far west Allentown, locating at 32d Street (later Cedar Crest Boulevard (1926)) and Chew Streets. In 1918, they began selling truck bodies and Atlas Trucks.

Beginning in 1920, a new showroom was opened for new car sales at 110 South Seventh Street, next to the Germania Hotel, keeping the auto garage separate in west Allentown. The business became a sub-dealer for Chevrolets along with the Krause Motor Company. In 1924, it sold Maxwells briefly as a sub-dealer with the Klein Motor company, then later that year becoming a Chrysler dealer along with Klein. In 1931, with the great depression, Cedar Bluff Auto lost its new car dealership and became a used car dealer, consolidating its business at the Chew and Cedar Crest Boulevard location.

Elmer Hartzell went to work for the Federal Government in 1941 during World War II. His brother Thomas operated the dealership, selling used cars until 1949 when it finally closed.
