English: Carrickbeg Friary was founded by James Butler, Earl of Ormond, as house of Franciscan friars in 1336, dissolved in 1540. The friars returned in 1669, built a thatched house, and Saint Francis Church in 1822 close to the medieval site which was in use until 2006 when it was closed due to falling vocations. Saint Molleran's Church was built in 1827 on the site of the medieval church, incorporating some of its features. Note that the site originally belonged to County Waterford but was along with Carrickbeg joined to Carrick-on-suir in County Tipperary. See Gwynn & Hadcock, Medieval Religious Houses Ireland, pp. 243–244, Patrick Conlan, Franciscan Ireland, p. 111, and this report about a new beginning.
