English: Carla Bauer was a German barque, built 1865 as full-rigged ship Duke of Atholl[1] by Denny & Rankine, Dumbarton for Montgomerie, Workman & Co., London. 1878 the Duke of Atholl was the first sailing ship towed through the Suez Canal. 1889 she sold to German owners in Rostock and was renamed Carla Bauer. 1897 abandoned in sinking condition in the North Atlantic in position 47°N, 10°W. The crew was rescued by the British sailing ship Loch Vennachar.
Dimensions: length × beam × depth = 199.2 × 33.2 × 20.8 ft (60.7 × 10.1 × 6.3 m) and 963 GRT and 963 NRT and 897 tons under deck.[2]
