English: The Capuchins in Ireland came in 1615, settled first in Thomas Street, then in Bridge Street before they moved to Church Street after the Battle of the Boyne in 1689. The present day church was built in 1868–1881 under the direction of the architect James Joseph McCarthy. A north aisle was added in 1910 by Ashlin & Coleman. On its northern side is the friary with a cylindrical oratory of 2001 designed by James Ahern Architects. (See information panel within the church and p. 245 in Christine Casey: The Buildings of Ireland: Dublin, ISBN 978-0-300-10923-8.)
