Capen House was built c.1700; the Union Oyster House was established in its ground floor in 1826. "Here Benj. Thompson (afterward Count Rumford) and Samuel Parkman served as apprentices to Hopestill Capen." (From "Homes of Our Forefathers in Boston, Old England and Boston, New England" by Edwin Whitefield, 1889.)
