The capitalization of the L in its name is deliberate: AL is the scientific symbol for aluminum, which is used for the tops of the instruments in this series. Thanks to its exceptional strength, it requires much less internal bracing than a conventional wooden top. ",
" The X model has a clear, responsive tone, both when played acoustically, and when the guitars' built-in electronics are plugged in. The ALternative XT featured here debuted in 2002. Constructed similarly to other models in the series, its most striking features are a Bigsby vibrato, a DiMarzio Fast Track 2 pickup, and a “graffiti pattern” on the aluminum. "
