The company was formed in September 1948 by Arne Bruun Rasmussen and performed auction no. 1 in October 1948. The traditional auctions were held in Bredgade, Copenhagen until September 2023, ending with number 915. After that, the auction house moved its site to Lyngby, north of Copenhagen.
In 1999 the company started a new series of auctions from a site on Pakhusvej 12 in Copenhagen, referred to as "Havnen (the harbour)". They ran from number 1 to number 48, in October 2004.
The auctions at Pedersholm, Vejle are recorded from January 2002, starting with auction no. 80. The last recorded auction on the site was no. 116 in October 2008. The auctions at Vejle also included two exclusive auctions, no. 1 and 2, with very few details available.
The auctions at Havnen became online auctions in October 2004, starting with number 444. The numbering consisted of the year ("4") and the week number ("44"). These weekly auctions are still running, now (May 2022) at number 2219.
Latest addition to the auctions were the "direct" auctions, online with no ways of inspecting the goods on site. They followed the same numbering convention, but with an "1" added in front, in May 2022 at number 12219. The direct auctiones ended in February 2023 - after about four years - as Bruun Rasmussen had become part of the Bonhams Network and wanted to leave the low-end market provided for in that type of auction. bruun-rasmussen.dk
