English: Baron Aberdare was an iron full-rigged ship, built in 1874 by W. Watson and Sons, Sunderland for James MacCann, Greenock. She capsized in Victoria Dock, London, on 14 December, 1883. Her masts and rigging had to be cut away before she could be raised. In 1885 she was sold to Reck & Boyes, Bremen (Germany) and renamed Katherine (or Katharine?) and was 1896 resold to C. Zernichow & O. Gotaas, Kristiania (Norway) and renamed Akershus. On Jan. 8, 1901, the vessel was stranded and wrecked at Sunbawa Island, Sapel Strait, Indonesia, on a passage from Philadelphia to Yokohama with 'case oil'.
