English: The 70 improved prototypes for a U.S. military, multi-role, 14-ton, four-wheel drive, liaison / reconnaissance car, now also known as a 14-ton jeep, designed and produced by American Bantam in 1940, and improved with functional flat / straight / rectangular front fenders, protected headlights, and simplified side entry cutouts, while front engine cover still remained round and bulbous, with round grille.

The side entry cutouts now had a single swoopy cutline, underneath the rear of which were grab handles placed at an angle from horizontal, yielding to the rear cutline of the entry opening. the outer side and back body panels still had a curve radius of two to three inches, like on the later standardized jeeps. On the 1941 ('BRC 40') models this panel fold would be dead square. Single rear bumper, contrary to two rear bumperettes on the 1941 units. Spare wheel center mounted, with fuel-filler to the right of it, in the rear body panel.

69 or 70 originals were made, eight of which also featured four-wheel steering.
