English: This street is named after Carlos Cândido dos Reis (Born 16 January 1852 - Died 4 October 1910). He was an Admiral in the Portuguese Navy and member of the secret society known as Carbonária. He was one of the conspirator in the 5 October Revolution. He committed suicide on the eve of the revolution under the belief that the coup had been a failure. Despite not having seen the Revolution's victory in which he had been instrumental, Admiral Cândido dos Reis has gone down in history as one of the main men responsible for the Implementation of the Republic.
