"DI MAURO Antoine Di Mauro was born in 1900 in Italy, where he trained as a luthier from an early age. He moved to Paris in 1932 and quickly set up shop as a guitar-maker. He initially made gut-strung classical guitars and mandolins, but when Selmer's new Maccaferri-designed guitar became popular, he started making less expensive versions of it. He also built archtops, Hawaiian steel guitars, mandolins, harp guitars, tenor guitars, and banjos. The most famous Di Mauro model was the Chorus Special, which had a Selmer body shape with two f-holes. The Chorus Special was first made in 1942 and remained in the catalog until the company closed. In 1947 Antoine's son Joseph began working at the small factory, and he eventually took over in 1975 when his father died. Joseph ran the company until he closed it down upon his retirement in 1993. In six decades of business the Di Mauro company produced thousands of guitars, but since it didn't keep recordss, the exact number is unknown. "
