English: Alfred A. Stratton was a 19-year-old soldier in Company G of the 147th New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment. His both arms were hit by a cannon shot during the siege of of Petersburg, Virginia. Despite his disability, he lived a full life, married in 1865 and was the father of a son and a daughter. He became pastor of Washington Street Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooklyn and later served as rector of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Washington. He died in 1874.
