English: Afon Alaw was a four-masted barque, built 1891 by Alexander Stephen & Sons Glasgow (Yard No 336) for Hughes & Co Menai Bridge. 1904 she was sold to William Thomas, Liverpool and 1915 to A/S Excelsior Sven O.Stray & Co, Kristiansand, Norway and renamed Storebror. The barque sunk 1918 by gunfire from the German Auxiliary Cruiser Wolf on passage Beira to Montevideo in Ballast.
Her dimensions were length × beam = 275 × 41 ft (83.8 × 12.4 m) and they had a tonnage of 2052 GRT.[1]
