89th Cadet Class Commissioning Ceremony Curragh Camp. 


Minister for State at the Department of An Taoiseach and the Department of Defence, Mr. Paul Kehoe, T.D, accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Conor O'Boyle attended the Commissioning Ceremony of twenty one (21) new Irish Army Officers and two Maltese Officers at the Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, Co. Kildare on Thursday, 23rd of January 2014.

The twenty male cadets and three female cadets have completed a demanding, challenging and rewarding 15 months of basic officer training, preparing them to take up appointments as junior leaders throughout the Army and in Malta. In receiving this Presidential Commission, the new officers took an oath of allegiance in which they will swore to be “faithful to Ireland and loyal to the Constitution”. The Maltese Cadets received a certificate of graduation. 

The class comes from diverse backgrounds across the country including sixteen university graduates, five of whom have masters degrees, three cadets who had previous service with the Permanent Defence Forces as enlisted personnel and five cadets who have previous Reserve Defence Force service. This class was also centrally involved in the 2013 State Ceremonial Programme and also the ceremonies to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the visit of US President John F Kennedy to Ireland and his death. As part of this commemorative programme, in November 2013 five members of the class traveled to Washington.
