Photo
[edit]Hi Zachary, I'm looking at photos for use in the Signpost. Could you tell me a bit about this photo? Was the Opening Ceremony team composed of Wikimedians, or were they entertainers, or..something else? Any hints most welcome! -Pete F (talk) 04:07, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Pete F! Happy to share more about this photo. This image shows Katherine Maher, Tighe Flanagan, and members of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) leadership at the end of the Opening Ceremony. The dancers photographed are student volunteers at CGC. Many of them helped prepare the event and some attended sessions during the conference to learn the basics of Wikimedia activity. I do not see any of the Wikiconference India organizers in this image. ZMcCune (WMF) (talk) 18:25, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Commons categories are not tags
[edit]Hi Zach,
Commons categories are not tags. The idea of tags is to indicate related terms, the idea of a categorization system is to put files under the most exact description. They can get very long. And it becomes difficult, when it comes to abstract things, or just everything which is not a physical object.
Let's take your file File:Explaining Wikipedia in Nigeria - Community survey findings.pdf as example: "Nigeria" and "Messaging" would be valid tags, but they are useless categories (too generic).
