Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). [edit]As seen in Commons:Help_desk#I_am_just_learning_how_to_create_articles_about_people,_I_have_uploaded_a_photo_just_for_test,_and_I_don't_have_any_way_to_delete_it. our Mediawiki software is the worst forum software in the world. However, it's also the worst photo sharing software in the world, so no need to worry. It's bad for these purposes because it isn't made for these purposes; it's made for editing an encyclopedia. It isn't even magnificent for that, because it's made on the cheap by coders who are mostly working for free. So, we old editors have a lot of little tricks. One is to indent replies with a colon. Another is, at the end of your message, put ~~~~ four tildes like that. When published it shows your username and the time you left it.
It's not just bad software; it's also too few administrators, maybe two or three of them not very bright and the rest of them certainly overworked. They get paid the same as the coders. So, we low level grunts, same pay but lesser powers and duties, try to take up some of the slack. Anyway, like any new editor you are stumbling around, lost and confused. Not a problem; we've all done that. We'd rather it wasn't that way, but we try to excuse it on the basis that it weeds out the faint hearted. Persist in stumbling around with the crazy technology and the apparently crazier rules, and not too many repetitions of the same stumble, and you'll be all right and able to enjoy yourself without making trouble to others. And don't hesitate to tell me your problems; use User talk:Jim.henderson. Jim.henderson (talk) 20:30, 16 August 2021 (UTC)
