Hi. Please don't tag other people's work as "fair use". If the source or licensing information is incomplete or the image is not free, then the image will be deleted in time. pfctdayelise (translate?) 10:15, 23 February 2006 (UTC)
Chinese translations
[edit]Hi Wrightbus. I didn't know whether to use the Traditional or Simplified versions, so I installed the Traditional Chinese translations you gave me. Does this page look right now? It might be a good idea to include the Traditional and Simplified versions both on MediaWiki:Captchahelp-text/zh ... Anyway, we could also use a translation of MediaWiki:Loginprompt. Thanks! User:dbenbenn 23:28, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- Simplified should be used on "zh". (简体中文 means Simplified Chinese) --Wrightbus 00:35, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
Image speedy
[edit]I notice you tagged Image:Fig1-21-2.gif with Speedydelete when you uploaded a new version at Image:Image:Typhoon York 1999.gif. To speed up the speedy deletion process and help administrators, consider using one of these more specific templates:
Copyvio
for obvious copyright violationsBadname
for files you uploaded with incorrect names, and are preferably unused (check usage). If they are used, useDuplicate
Duplicate
for files that are exactly the same as other files
See Commons:Deletion guidelines for more options and information.

Image deletion warning | Image:Doolittle b-25.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Crossing out superseded images
[edit]Hi Wrightbus! Please don't upload the 'crossed over icon' to superseded flag images indiscriminately. Images like Image:Lebanon flag large.png is used in several Wikinews articles. --Himasaram 01:15, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- I'm unable to change those PNG flags used in Wikinews articles since the articles are protected. Hence uploaded 'crossed over icon' to force members with SYSOP privileges to switch them into SVG format. --Wrightbus 17:28, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.
This message was added automatically by Filbot, if you need some help about it, ask its master or go to the Commons:Help desk. --Filnik 16:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT 06:17, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit]On 19 March at least one small version of the Flag of Tonga (specifically http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9a/Flag_of_Tonga.svg/22px-Flag_of_Tonga.svg.png) ceased working. This is a file that is used in version templates for things such as Template:Fb on the en.wikipedia. I'm no expert on how these things work, but the loss coincided with your edits on the main flag of Tonga. Could you check to see if your changes have caused this loss. Copyright status: File:MWDH Block G.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:MWDH Block G.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

Using Stela of Plover Cove Reservoir Image in publication
[edit]Hello Wright.one,
I am writing on behalf of Ming-Ai (London) Institute, to ask for your full name to be printed in one of our upcoming publications.
We will be using one of your authored images, the Stela of Plover Cove Reservoir image in publication. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stela_of_Plover_Cove_Reservoir.jpg
Ming-Ai is a non-profit educational charity organisation based in the UK which was established in 1993. We run a Master degree programme (validated by the Middlesex University, UK) in Chinese Cultural Heritage Management, and also develop and research culture heritage projects especially on the subjects of British Chinese.
We are currently working on an oral history project which is about the former Hong Kong governors' vessel, Lady Maurine (慕蓮夫人號). The outcome of this project is to publish a book on its history. Project website for your reference: http://www.britishchineseheritagecentre.org.uk/projects/lady-maurine
Thank you very much and look forward to hearing from you soon.
