Wrong licenses
[edit](You said at User talk:Royalbroil) I'm relatively inexperienced on Commons, so I was wondering if there was any template I could tag images with or any discussion page I could bring them to if I suspect that they are tagged with the wrong license - for example, [[File:Joshua Cole Official Picture.jpg]] and [[File:Johnny Miller racing driver.jpg]] seem very unlikely as 4.0. Thanks as always, Willsome429 (talk) 21:09, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
- Several days ago, I typed up a response and thought that I had posted it but I hadn't. I shut down my computer when thunderstorms came through and lost it.
- Commons has different standards for deletion than the English Wikipedia. Commons:Project scope/Precautionary principle is the key for what is kept. It is good to discuss files that you have significant doubt. When in doubt, I search the internet trying to find the file elsewhere. If I do, then I nominate it for speedy delete and include the URL of the source. As a Commons admin, my favorite admin task is to check files that are nominated for speedy deletion to verify that they're copied illegally before deleting them. But you should only use the speedy nomination process if you actually find a website (without the claimed Creative Commons license). Otherwise you could nominate them for regular deletion. On an image page, the menu on the lower left includes deletion nomination links.
- For File:Joshua Cole Official Picture.jpg, it looks like a photograph taken in a studio. That alone is justification for a regular deletion discussion (if you don't find it elsewhere on a web search and nominate speedy). Please ping me on the nomination and I'll weigh in.
- For File:Johnny Miller racing driver.jpg, it don't look professional. I would search the internet for a copyright infringement. If I didn't find one, I wouldn't nominate it for deletion. I don't see a rationale for nominating it but you certainly can if you have a rationale.
- It's looking real bad for racing this year. I wouldn't go to a local track except if a very good inoculation is found or if a magic cure is found. It's far too many people in one spot and I don't want to risk getting it or passing on to my family. Royalbroil 13:00, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. Yeah, it’s not looking great. Luxemburg’s been through three promoters in five years and I’m not sure if they’re gonna survive this. Hopefully things will clear up for the Dixieland or they push it back to a time when they can run it. Willsome429 (talk) 13:26, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
- I heard lots of financial doubts about last year's Luxemburg promoter before the season started. I was surprised that they made it through one whole season. I see that one of the local drivers is planning to race his 410 sprint car at Park Jefferson Speedway tonight. South Dakota don't have a ban on gatherings. There's no fans in the stands and 64 top national drivers (capped at 32 IMCA Modifieds and 32 Sprinters). It's on pay per view at Speed Shift TV ($30 for one event, $300 for the year). Toby Kruse from 141 Speedway is one of the announcers. Royalbroil 13:43, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
I didn’t know that we were sending drivers out there! Knew it was happening but obviously I’m not following the right guys to know that there’s going to be a local entry tonight. Willsome429 (talk) 14:17, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Autopatrol user right added
[edit]Based on your long history of trustworthy editing on the English Wikipedia, I have added the Autopatroller right for you. It means that your edits don't need to be checked for vandalism. Some of your edits came up on my watchlist and I knew that you don't need to be watched. (You have rollbacker, pending changes review, and new page patrol rights for years on the English Wikipedia.) Royalbroil 03:28, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks! For the foreseeable future, all of my uploads will be my own work, so I appreciate the autopatrol added. Willsome429 (talk) 12:18, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
File:Mountain Holler old and new 12oz.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |
