Hello, William Vroman!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Hi William Vroman; Another editor has questioned the licensing of File:7_Chakras.JPG and File:7_Chakras.JPG that appear to be generated by computer software to which you may not hold the copyright.[1] If you own the copyright, please use Commons:Email templates for permission and send it to Commons:OTRS. Commons:Image casebook explains more about the types of files that Commons accepts. Best wishes, Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:54, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 • Hi Walter,
These pictures were produced by myself with a bio-feedback sensor (AuraStar 2000) and its software. I own the software and the apparatus. It produces specific "energy" pictures of individuals based on electromagnetic energy measured from reflex points of the hand. The output of the apparatus can be manipulated and printed by the operator. It is intepreted according to Reflexology theory.
These are actually pictures taken by myself of my own energy field (aura) and energy centers (chakras) intensity.
The procedure is very much similar to pictures one has taken of oneself with a photo camera that one owns and which comes with processing and editing software. William Vroman (talk) 05:32, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi William Vroman; I don't think that you can assume File:Training.seer.cancer.gov - illu cranial nerves1.jpg is . "The training modules on this site are funded by the U.S. National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) Program, via contract number N01-CN-67006, with Emory University, Atlanta SEER Cancer Registry, Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A."[2] Only works of US Federal Government employees are public domain and Emory University is not part of the Federal Government. Please use the procedure referenced in my previous message to establish a valid license.

 • Hi,
I'll take care of it... (Thing is, I'm extremely busy at the moment preparing for an extended trip to Europe. But I will attend ot it. If need be, you can delete it, and I can take care of it later... William Vroman (talk) 05:32, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for agreeing to establish a clear license for the file. May I wish you a good trip, please? Walter Siegmund (talk) 05:49, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The other file that has been questioned is File:Chakra Colors Reference Chart.JPG.[3] Is this your own work, or the output of AuraStar2000, a program to which you hold the copyright? Also, I wonder if you would be kind enough not to upload additional files until you clear up the licensing on these. Thank you, Walter Siegmund (talk) 15:34, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 • Thank you. It is fine to use MS Word in the manner you describe. I'm sorry to have to question you, but many people do not understand that they may not upload screen-shots of proprietary programs indiscriminately. Walter Siegmund (talk) 05:49, 16 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
File:Crown Brow Throat Chakras, Rajasthan 18th Century.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
