File:Taşlı Köprü - Vıcıtırın 01.jpg
[edit]Hello WhiteWriter. I saw a redirection in my photo named File:Taşlı Köprü - Vıcıtırın 01.jpg. You did this redirection and there is no explanation. My photo is in Commons on its name. I don't want any redirection. This photograph/file must stay on its own place and own name. Photo Balkan (talk) 17:11, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- Dear WhiteWriter, I upload it on its native name. "Taşlı Köprü" is this bridges name in modern Turkish and old Ottoman Turkish. Its not misleading. Most Vojinovića is its Serbian name and is used in English. So this bridge has got many names, of course. I chose one of them (Taşlı Köprü). Its very simple and very clear. I don't want to argue because there is no need. Criterias is here: 1# There is no uploader requested, 2# Name is suitable, 3# Name is not misleading name, it is one of native name, 4# Name is meaningful, 5# There is no error, 6# There is no need to harmonizing, 7# Name doesn't contain any pejorative, offensive or crude language items. Photo Balkan (talk) 10:01, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- I revert the file rename as the author's request. Isee no reson to rename. File heave to rename only for one of the reasons mentioned in Commons:File renaming. Please see Which files should not be renamed? #2: Files should NOT be renamed only because the filename is not English and/or is not correctly capitalized (Remember, Commons is a multilingual project, so there's no reason to favor English over other languages). Geagea (talk) 12:47, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you. Also maybe I understand why you did that renaming. You thought that köprü is a name for "bridge" in Turkish and Taşlı Köprü must be just a descriptive name. But it is native name and as Geagea refers "Files should NOT be renamed only because the filename is not English". Now problem is solved. Good day. Photo Balkan (talk) 8:33, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
copyvio-tagging of ICTY image
[edit]Hi WhiteWriter, after deep-checking at source, I have reverted your copyvio-tags of these 3 ICTY images, as the same permission statement as in our description is still to be found on the source website. --Túrelio (talk) 16:25, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- Hello, Tur. Can you please point me where, i also searched, but failed to find... --WhiteWriter speaks 16:34, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
- Take File:Manjača Camp.jpg for example. When you click on source, you read "Copyright: Most of these pictures are ICTY photographs and are copyright free. If you reproduce any of these images, please provide the following credit: "Courtesy of the ICTY". Pictures taken by non-ICTY photographers may not be reproduced or transmitted without the photographer's written permission (contact details appear on the print version of the relevant pictures)." When you then click on the menue "Bombing Destruction and Camps", you see a gallery that includes this image. When you click on the correct image, the latter pops up, including a caption that does not mention an external photographer/source (or any photographer). If you then click on the link donwload high resolution, again you are presented the image without any external photographer/source mentioned. Therefore, IMO we are rather safe to assume these 3 images were indeed taken by ICTY personal. --Túrelio (talk) 18:19, 5 May 2012 (UTC)
It's OK for what it is, though it doesn't appear to have true alpha-channel transparency (only effective single-color transparency). I'm not expert at the vectorization of arbitrary images (only at the vectorization of certain types of images which can be specified geometrically), but you can ask at Commons:Graphic Lab/Illustration workshop... Unfortunately, maps like this one (of World War II occupied territories) are a little more complicated than those on either side of the war since the other territories on the map would be in almost constant flux.

Renames
[edit]Youre recent renames are not in line with Commons:File renaming. Please (re-)read that page and don't do such renames anymore otherwise I'm afraid I have to remove the right. Thank you, Multichill (talk) 21:33, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
- Please, tell me what exactly you mean? Usage of File renaming criterions? Or what exactly? I didnt renamed anything special in the past few weeks... Please, explain it to me, i really find this important, and try to follow rules as best as i can. --WhiteWriter speaks 16:06, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
- The starting point is that we don't rename unless we have to because it has a big impact downstream.
- Take for example File:Petrova crkva 3.jpg, it looks more like point 1 than a valid rename. Multichill (talk) 18:14, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, but i must disagree a bit, you are not quite right. Petrova crkva is an old name, but church original name is "Crkva Svetih apostola Petra i Pavla". Plus, i added location, Novi Pazar, Srbija. This was actually a bit misleading name, as file name should be correct and complete. Also, we have tons of simmilar two-word files for this UNESCO world heritage site, and as this image has been nominated for the Wiki Loves Monuments international finals, and its also a quality image, it should not have misleading name. Dont worry, i take this very seriously, if there is no real and good reason, i dont rename the file. You should inform your self for the reasons before "otherwise" part, and i will try to explain renames better in the future. Be good. --WhiteWriter speaks 18:05, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open
[edit]Dear Wikimedians,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:
- Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
- This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
- Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.
To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons
Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Crkva Sv. Nikole „Tutićeva“- image
[edit]Me again ;-) I just saw that it was you who did the upload of this image. When I asked you in the English Wikipedia because of the information about the "Monastery of Devič" image by user Nikostrat I wasn't aware, that I've already used your image of the interior of the same monastery. Since I noticed the OTRS system remark at the interior image, the question arose whether you possibly could help to find a licensed image of the Church of St. Nicholas („Tutić Church“) in Prizren, showing the results of the 2004 attacks? At the webpage of MNEMOSYNE there are very impressing pictures, carrying the source remark "Photo ERPKIM". I don't speak Serbian and it probably would be very difficult for me to get in contact with ERP KIM Info-service in order to get a permission for using the first or second image in Wikipedia. The Serbian Wikipedia uses an image by Tanjug, but I don't think they would allow the usage here. Now, Prizren was under "protection" of German KFOR troops. It should have been at least. I would be very happy, if we could visualize the damages at this church. Of course I understand when you pass this task back to me. Aber ich wollte es zumindest versucht haben :-) Greetings,--Anglo-Araneophilus (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
- Ich werde versuchen zu helfen! :) I will write to the ERPKIM in order to gain licence. That would be great help! Stay in touch, will inform you soon. --WhiteWriter speaks 20:40, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

About my photograph
[edit]WhiteWriter, I understand, the main problem is a bit political-sociological. As how I see, you're working on Serbian titles mainly. Maybe you are Serbian. They are not problem, they are normal. Your argument is mainly political. And I don’t want to be in a political discussion. This historical building (church or temple) was church, than it became mosque. Today it is closed church/temple. This church’s Turkish name is "Cuma Camii" since 15th century. You can search. Today it is not mosque of course. But I didn't say anything about its religious situation. I said that I choose Turkish variant. Today can we use it as Cuma Kilisesi in Turkish? It will be so non-scientific, repulsive... “Cuma Camii” is today available name on Turkish nomenclature and also in Kosovo (Turkish and Albanian). I just had chosen a name for my photograph. Onomastics say that historical places’ names can refer to different word worlds. Especially religious places’ names are main issue for it. One language/variant use it as its thinking or background, another language/variant use it another.
Now, as I said, this historical buildings Commons name is Turkish name. One of its original names. It is very simple. No one can say, what name should I or any user choose, if there is no naming problem like pejorative, offensive or crude language items. Criterias are so clear: “Files should NOT be renamed only because the filename is not English and/or is not correctly capitalized (Remember, Commons is a multilingual project, so there's no reason to favor English over other languages).” File:Cuma Camii, Prizren (Saat Kulesinden).JPG is this files own name and there is no need for renaming. Thank you. Photo Balkan (talk) 12:23, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
