I have a question. If the Simple English Wiki doesn't allow any other media files except the ones on Wiki Commons, does that mean that it is completely blocked off from all fair-use materials?

Hi, I think I can explain, however my English is not good. I've choosed the license of "GDFL content from English Wikipedia". And when I did that, I've seen GDFL license of the items. Witaj! Spełniłem Twoją prośbę i przeniosłem wszystkie (prawie) grafiki na Commons. Mam jednak problem z tą dyskusją. Rozstrzygnij sam co z tym zrobić. Grafika jest przeniesiona, więc ją wykasuj kiedy rozwiążesz problem ze stroną dyskusji. Zostawiłem też dwie starsze grafiki [2] i [3] w formacie png. Zrobię wersje wektorowe i wówczas je wykasuję. Wszystko jasne. Te grafiki to tylko na czas przenosin. Ułatwiało mi to wykrycie tych, których nie było na Commons. Nie chcę zapeszyć, ale przymierzam się do tego spotkania w Chorzowie. Wczoraj zkasowałeś herb Rudy Śląskiej, ponieważ jest wersią png. Ja myśle, że "SVG" nie jest powód na kasowanje herbów. Specialnje w tym przypadku SVG-wersia jest kiepska i nie odpowiada herbu oficjalnym. Logomesbla

I don't understand why the image logomesbla, which I uploaded, was deleted. It's a logo of a company which no longer exists, because a Brazilian court declared its bankrupcy. Acoording to Brazilian law (and also other countries law), a bankrupted company lost the right on the use of its assets, including trademarks. I wish you reconsider your decision. I noticed that you created some 2000 census age pyramids for the US state of Illinois, located in Category:Age pyramids for counties in Illinois. I have placed the pyramids into the english wikipedia county articles, but there are only 52 of the 102 counties. Thank you for your support. I can’t stay not because some user was arrogant and presumptuous in his speech but because no one, except me, is opposing his actions. The obvious conclusion is that I’m in minority e.g. most of the users in our group agree with changing the philosophy of the election and are against making available to voters a sorted list of pictures. Being stopped from inserting such an innocuous link like this one [6] was too much for me. I am not that important, the election will go on and have an enormous success, that is what I sincerely wish. Alvesgaspar 15:15, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Checking of votes

A number of voters have posted invalid diffs, and I've struck those out and warned them when I've spotted it. But I suspect there may be others who appear to be valid but don't actually have 100 edits. Do you know of any way in which we could automate the check for that? --MichaelMaggs 16:21, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Just to help the bot, I have edited some lines so that their format (notably the leading list of numbers) is uniform; i hope this will avoid counting bugs. I have also commented the explaining page, urging users to respect the format, including for their changes (I have stroked the lines where changes were clear, but mixed numbers that were stroked and numbers that were kept, so that the definitive vote only shows the numbers in normal format.)

Otherwise, my own counting script were rejecting lines with invalid format.

Be careful when counting with your bot: there may be extra spaces, sometimes there are words like "and" in the middle instead of a comma. (I've manually edited these cases)

Make sure that the bot verifies the formats it accepts very strictly, and that it outputs the rejected lines so that they can be counted manually, and then edited for the next run of the bot. If possible, the bot should be able to recreate a list with the canonical format for number lists, and a required space and clear separator after it.

Can the bot also verify the signatures? some are using signatures refering their Wikipedia account, without refering to their Comons account, and without diff, even if their local account on Commons is valid. It's difficult to verify this, because one needs to look at the history to see who really voted.

Some users are also inserting links with their numbers, it breaks the format, and makes parsing more difficult.

I also hope that noone is trying to mix the numbers in the image gallery (the source list must be kept, and if someone changes the gallery, it must be reverted as soon as possible to keep the listed numbers associated to the same image (i hope that the script that randomizes the list does not mix them! That's why the source ordered list (gallery0) must not be changed and used as the reference.

My opinion is that the gallery should be completely protected, except for Commons administrators that may insert a new randomized and verified list.

Warning: i note that 2 images have been deleted from the gallery (321 images instead of 323 initially) but the list was RENUMBERED! This means that image numbers used after the removed images are no longer refering to the same one before the change or after it. If some images must be deleted (because they are no longer featured), make sure that the numbers are kept even for images after the deleted ones! the gallery should then display cells with a all blank image if the image was deleted, to preserve the list count, if this helps the list randomizer to avoid holes. My opinion is that we should not even try to delete any image now, even if it's deleted. The image will just be ignored from the final vote. We can inform users about images that will not be counted so that they can change their vote if they want. Verdy p 01:39, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry about the numbers. The number in the voting list (and gallery) was reduced from 323 to 321 here on 31st Jan, before voting started. Hej, http://www.forestryimages.org zawiera wiele zdjęć z taką adnotacją: http://www.forestryimages.org/about/imageusage.cfm, część zdjęć jest robiona przez pracowników USDA, więc ucieszyłam się, że można je na commons wrzucać z {{PD-USGov-USDA}}. Ale znalazłam taką adnotację: http://www.forestryimages.org/browse/detail.cfm?imgnum=1149050 (sekcja Image Use) i zaczęłam mieć wątpliwości. Żeby mieć dostęp do formularza zapytania o zgodę na wykorzystanie komercyjne (http://www.forestryimages.org/browse/permission.cfm?img=1149050&use=Media) trzeba założyć konto i zalogować się - zrobiłam to i ten formularz to jest prawdopodobnie jednolity interfejs dla zapytań o zezwolenie na użycie dowolnego zdjęcia, ale ponieważ prawo USA sprawia, że zdjęcia USDA są w PD, to chyba nie trzeba tego robić w odniesieniu do tych szczególnych zdjęć? Na commons znajdują się obecnie 3 zdjęcia z tego serwisu, jedno copyrighted: Image:Neodiprion lecontei.jpg, i dwa PD UsDA: Image:Serrated tussock.jpg, Image:Osmoderma eremita.jpg. --Nova 00:17, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Diagrams

for the diagram i have done:. The reason for the background one the image is that thisimage and this image actually belong to each other. so that the background color, between other things conects them both. plus in the case of the vegetal cell it reduces the contrast between the backgound and the image. removing the all too white feeling that one get in a so sparced diagram.It also conects the 3 cells in diferent states, marking the central point on the diagram. And last it is grey for the same reason that the cell wall is dark blue or the vacuole is light blue. becouse when i did the diagram and found this color combination apropiate and armonic.

Witaj:) odczytałem Twoją wiadomość po dokonaniu poprawek:) już je trochę powiększyłem, nadal jednak jest to jeszcze wersja eksperymentalna i będą jeszcze drobne zmiany bo prowadzę konsultacje:) Ramki niestety nie dadzą się już zbyt dużo powiększyć ponieważ planuję w ten sposób zilustrować wszystkie główne cykle biochemiczne i chcę zachować proporce w całej serii grafik a w niektórych z nich między ramkami będą związki przejściowe (jak to widać w pierwszej reakcji) i może być naprawdę ciasno a chcę umieścić jak najwięcej informacji na tych grafikach. A z tym marginesem to rozumiem, że chodziło o ograniczenie przestrzeni pomiędzy grafiką a krawędzią kartki:) wyeliminowałem to ale trochę przesadziłem (bo obcięło mi trochę dolnej błony cytoplazmatycznej glioksysomu :D) W dodatku planuję umieścić legendę z objaśnieniami ale zobaczę czy będzie trzeba:) Pozdrawiam Karol007dyskusja 18:59, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I noticed that you created Image:POL COA Abdank.svg. If you'll have some time could you please create SVG versions of Image:Coat of Arms of Vietka, Belarus.png and Image:Coat of Arms of Vałožyn, Belarus.png (but please use same file names - it's convention of Belarusian Wikipedia)? You are right, shields are different. Vetka CAO as on Spanish shield (as on Image:POL COA Abdank.svg), Valozhyn COA is on Varangians shield (as on Image:HołowniaII POL CoA.png). However I don't know how standard type of shields in heraldry (dimensions/proportions and so on) in different countries. --EugeneZelenko 15:41, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Kasowanie grafik

WarX, przepraszam za zawracanie głowy, ale mógłbyś mi powiedzieć jak traktowane są grafiki w sytuacji w której strona z której zostały pobrane zniknęła? Bo wrzuciłem na commons trochę grafik ze strony http://212.84.179.117/list.htm zawierającej grafiki z http://www.probertencyclopaedia.com/ w trochę większej rozdzielczości (szerokość 300 zamiast 200 px) i teraz są one po kolei kasowane bo stronka z której je pobrałem jest niedostępna. Najpierw parę dni temu mi wcięło [7] , wczoraj [8]. Graficzki słabe, ale z braku lepszych się przydają. W dodatku z tej stronki załadowałem jeszcze sporo innych, a na dysku mam dalszych kilkadziesiąt (z powodu słabej jakości ładuje tylko potrzebne). Nemo5576 14:12, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

About low resolution

The photos are all in 800x600 pixel (old pictures taken during 2000 to 2006 and normalized for internet site). The new ones are in a modern resolution. I shall take new pictures the most bad from 1998 to 2000 (600px wide !!!)

Witaj. Po raz drugi wraca - raz już rozstrzygnięty - temat plakatu Sarneckiego z 1989 roku. Niejaki G.dallorto - miałem z nim kilka starć na okoliczność jego myślowego schematyzmu w sprawach licencji - także i tu upiera się przy podejściu paranoiczno-literalnym, a nie racjonalnym. Być może zresztą to ponowne zgłoszenie (pomimo faktu, że raz już rzecz została zdecydowana) jest też trochę z jego strony rewanżem za poprzednią moją z nim dyskusję (dotyczyła {anonymous work} z 1920). Bend or bend sinister ?

Good afternoon,

You drew two months ago a beautiful SVG coat of arms of Dolwa family to replace the old JPG file. The description (in English) is Azure on a bend Argent three roses Gules, but your drawing shows a bend sinister whereas there was a bend on the JPG file. Do you know for sure which is the real blazon, and can you correct if necessary?

Cześć :) Możesz spytać User:Valentinian o co mu chodzi? Najpierw usunął z grafiki szablon {{PD-Poland}} i zastąpił go {{no license}} z opisem No license. {{PD-Poland}} does not apply. This is a post-1952 image, a kiedy mu napisałem że ta licencja obowiązuje fotki opublikowane pomiędzy 1952, a 1994, odpisał mi ze I don't dispute that the image was taken by a Polish citizen, but do we have sources that it was taken in Polish waters? AFAIK that is a requirement of the said law. [11].
