Adding categories

[edit]

Hi Trop86, please be welcomed to Commons. I see that you are adding many categories in regard to architecture. Please keep in mind that you should only categories that exist already. You are free to create non-existing categories, see Commons:Categories for instructions. But please do not leave red-linked categories (i.e. non-existing categories) for the file descriptions. Thank you and happy editing at Commons, AFBorchert (talk) 18:49, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Stele Siedlung Ulmer Ried.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hi Trop86, per COM:L you are required to add a {{Information}} template to the file descriptions of your uploads where in particular you need to declare explicitly the source of your uploads. If these are your own photos, you need to declare them as your {{Own}} or {{Self-photographed}}. Uploads without source declaration can be deleted (see notice above). And as both photos are derived works of information panels you need to address why you can take advantage of freedom of panorama by adding the {{FoP-Germany}} tags to it. Thereby you are confirming that this has been photographed from a public way, street or place in Germany and that the information panels are permanent installations. This confirmation is required. In addition, you should add proper descriptions to these photos. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 07:06, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The {{Information}} template is still missing... --AFBorchert (talk) 16:27, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Built in Ulm in YYYY categories

[edit]

Hi Trop86, you have created 37 categories like Category:Built in Ulm in 1616 which transclude {{UlmArc}} which does not exist yet. Please do not create categories with non-existing templates. The template should be created first. BTW, I am doubtful if this kind of atomization into more and more finer categories is useful. Many of these categories like Category:Built in Ulm in 1358 will never include more than one building. Right now, we have for Baden-Württemberg two buildings that are known to be from this year: Category:Built in Baden-Württemberg in 1358. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 23:15, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trop86, you have twice added Category:Renaissance architecture in Ulm to this building ([1], [2]). Please don't do that. You should discuss your claim at Category talk:Schönes Haus, Ulm but please do not add this category again to this building without further discussion. This is not helpful. Just because a building has been possibly erected in 1616 does not make it magically a building of Renaissance architecture where we would expect characteristic elements that refer to ancient Roman architecture. This is no palazzo with semicircular arches etc. but a regular timber frame building. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 21:32, 19 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trop86, this category name is unfortunate as it doubles “Ulm”. Please follow the scheme of the other per-building-categories below Category:Unter der Metzig, Ulm which are of the kind “Unter der Metzig N (Ulm)” like Category:Unter der Metzig 9 (Ulm)‎. And once you create such categories, you should make sure that overcategorizations are avoided. Right now, File:Ulm Unter der Metzig 17 2011 09 15.jpg is included in both Category:Unter der Metzig, Ulm and Category:Ulm Unter der Metzig 17 (Ulm). The HotCat gadget can be used to fix this. Renaming categories

[edit]

Hi Trop86, you are emptying categories and moving their contents to newly created categories with a different name as you did, for example, for Category:Hirschstraße 9 (Ulm) which was recreated as Category:Wöhrl Plaza Hirschstraße (Ulm). Please don't do that. Firstly, we prefer to have discussions if categories are to be renamed. This is done through COM:CFD and gives all involved the opportunity to discuss this. Secondly, categories can be properly renamed at Commons, see Commons:Rename a category how this is done. Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 16:14, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've now restored the previous state as the new category was improperly named (punctuation and number missing). And I don't see the necessity for this move at all. Open a case at COM:CFD if you disagree. --AFBorchert (talk) 16:17, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Overcategorisation / redundante Kategorisierung

[edit]
English: Hello Stop86, to the medium Ulm, Söflingen, Christuskirche v NW, 1.jpeg you added two categories, namely Buildings in Ulm-Söflingen and Evangelical Lutheran churches in Ulm. Both of these categories are covered by the category Christuskirche (Söflingen). Addings them to the medium into the bargain clutters the category pages and is, therefore, unusual, even undesirable. -- Renardo la vulpo (talk) 19:45, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Trop86, this category is redundant to Category:Judenhof (Ulm). Regards, AFBorchert (talk) 16:05, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category

[edit]

When you want to ask for speedy-delete of an empty category, best practice is to mark it with {{SD|C2}} if it would be OK to re-create it in the future, given that appropriate content becomes available or {{SD|C1}} if it is an inappropriate category name that should not be reused. In particular, this is better practice than just blanking the category page, as you did at Category:Hermann-Köhl-Straße 3, 5 / Schützenstraße 1, 3 (Neu-Ulm). ("C1" and "C2" come from Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion). Jmabel ! talk 04:20, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And, again, the same with Category:Gutenbergstraße 16 - 22, Nagelstraße 30 - 32, Winklerstraße 3 - 7, Ulm. - Jmabel ! talk 04:50, 20 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Bitte Überkategorisierung vermeiden

[edit]

    • Buildings in Ulm-Söflingen
    • Christuskirche (Söflingen) →
      • Söflingen
      • Churches in Ulm-Söflingen →
        • Buildings in Ulm-Söflingen
          • Söflingen

Also zweimal „Söflingen“ und zweimal „Buildings in Ulm-Söflingen“. Das macht die Struktur unübersichtlich. Danke und Grüße – Renardo la vulpo (talk) 11:26, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
