Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Image Tagging Image:Amazilia versicolor 001 1280.jpg
[edit]
Thanks for uploading Image:Amazilia versicolor 001 1280.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you.

Hi
[edit]I see you uploading some great content to Commons for which many thanks. However I also notice that the website states that the photos there have varied licensing. Could I ask you to link to the specific page on the website that the image comes from so that it is easy to check licensing. Many thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 14:44, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
- Sure Tom - I realised the position, however it does make checking licensing rather difficult. While many of the pictures I looked at were obviously yours one or two did not seem quite the same & I was curious. We do prefer to keep communication on wiki as it is transparent that way and saves any possible confusions in the future. Thanks & regards --Herby talk thyme 15:21, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi, the image is maybe just a duplicate to Image:Spot-breasted Woodpecker 700.jpg, you can delet one of the images by writing {{dupe|Image:Spot-breasted Woodpecker!?!?.jpg}} on the imagepage (the !?!? ist the 700 or not). --Martin H. (talk) 02:43, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe i gave you wrong instructions, the !?!? was just a placeholder for the _700 you added to the other images name and i dont know, which image is the duplicate. Please remember {{dupe|Image:otherimagename.jpg}} if you make a mistake in future. --Martin H. (talk) 13:00, 24 August 2008 (UTC)
Please link images
[edit]
Hello Tomfriedel!
Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images uploaded to Commons should be useful to all users of Wikimedia projects. This is possible only if the images can be found by other people.
To allow others to find the images you uploaded here, the images should be in some place that can be found by navigating the category structure. This means that you should put the images into appropriate topic pages, categories, optionally galleries, or both of them (see Commons:Categories). To find good categories for your images, the CommonSense tool may help.
You can find a convenient overview of your uploaded files in this gallery.
The important point is that the images should be placed in the general structure somewhere. There are a large number of completely unsorted images on Commons right now. If you would like to help to place some of those images where they can be found, please do!
Thank you. BotMultichillT (talk) 23:16, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Copyright
[edit]In the case of the photograph that you pointed to, it was on flickr with an appropriate licence. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:33, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Your uploads
[edit]The categories should be the binomial name, and so a lot of your uploads need changing. I hope to get some help with correcting your uploads. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:33, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
I had a look at your website. I am interested in parrots, and I saw the image of the Fig Parrot, which I thought was brilliant. It would be a super addition to the wiki. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:33, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
Attribution
[edit]I am not sure if you can stipulate that attribution must appear on the same page as the photo on the commons. You can choose a copyright that sates that attribution must be made. Does this suit you? If you need to know more, then please ask on the help page. Thank you for adding the parrot image. It is the first photograph of its species on the wiki. Snowmanradio (talk) 18:08, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
I have repaired the binomial names in the categories in some of your most recent uploads. Snowmanradio (talk) 19:13, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Oriole --> Grosbeak
[edit]Do you remember where you took this photo? The reason I'm asking, is that it actually shows a Pheucticus sp, but without locality the northern P. chrysopeplus and the southern P. chrysogaster can be very difficult to separate. • Rabo³ • 23:52, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
How embarassing. At the zoo they told me it was a White-edged Oriole. They must really not know. Tomfriedel (talk) 03:10, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- It would be interesting to know which zoo. Snowmanradio (talk) 09:13, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
- No embarrassment necessary; a very easy mistake to make. Nevertheless, as mentioned by Snowmanradio above, it would be nice to know where it was taken. In some cases, we'd be able to check the species via ISIS (not that it always is reliable), and in others cases a bit of searching may turn up more photos from the same zoo, showing things that may aid in finding the exact identification. • Rabo³ • 01:02, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I checked with the Miami Metrozoo and they do have a White-edged Oriole, and a Mexican Yellow Grosbeak.

Parrot photographs
[edit]I think that you have a good collection of parrot photographs on your own website. I recognised several on your website from seeing them on the wikipedia. There are about a dozen that would significantly enhance the wikipedia. Can I make a list? Incidentally, I think that one that you have labelled as a Red-lored Amazon is a Tucuman Amazon. Snowmanradio (talk) 16:16, 16 September 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heads up on the Red-lored. I replaced that image since I don't know the ID for sure. It was shot in a cage at a zoo in Costa Rica. I replaced an image today where Wikipedia had a copyrighted one, do you know any more of those? I can't promise anything if you were to make a list. Tomfriedel (talk) 00:48, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Also you replaced my Golden Parakeet photo with two birds in a cage :(, so I am a bit hesitant to upload more parakeets. Tomfriedel (talk) 01:12, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- I've added this text to a number of discussions, and see that are dozens of copyrighted imagse added by Snowmanradio on Flickr. -- This image has a copyright, and the author clearly states on his Flickr page that his images, including the ones being used by Flickr, are NOT free, and that permission is required before using them. I have replaced a number of images like this, but don't have most of the species. Tomfriedel (talk) 04:37, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

- Hello, again, Tom.
- I send you the next message by reply to your form in Animalandia, but the webserver returns it to me:
- Hello Tom.
- The best place for your comment will be your "contributor card" in Animalandia: http://herramientas.educa.madrid.org/animalandia/autor.php?nombre=Tom%20Friedel
- (If you prefer, I can change the web "http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Tomfriedel" x "http://www.birdphotos.com/" or show both...)

>>Armadillo picture
[edit]Hello Tom. Some time ago (seven years), you uploaded this picture with "some rights reserved". I thought you might like to know that your picture has been reproduced in an online Reuters news story, the recent one about a Texas man whose jaw was injured when he shot at an armadillo and the bullet bounced back at him. They have credited "Complex Media", whatever that is supposed to mean, but I don't see your name there. Here, have a look. I recently took the London Evening Standard to task for reproducing one of my pictures without crediting me, and they inserted my name. Under the terms of the licence that you applied, Reuters is supposed to credit the photographer. Kelisi (talk) 18:15, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that info Tomfriedel
