Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.
[[Category:Category name]]
For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:
[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]
This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 11:21, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Edit Warring File:Granica-zrywanie godła.jpg
[edit]Tom5551 at this point I will ask you to stop reverting the image to your versions. You do not have consensus to do so, and the image version you are trying to keep is not better, despite your claims otherwise. I will ask you to stop edit warring or you will be blocked per "the three-revert rule", which has been overstepped sometime ago. --E-960 (talk) 19:54, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Autopatrol given
[edit]Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. Abzeronow (talk) 17:50, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Wild Barbary Lion Photo
[edit]Hi Tom!
I love this photo of the Barbary lion. I noticed the version that you uploaded is unique and I can't find it anywhere else on the web. Can you tell me where you got it from? I would like to try and get a better quality version or view the original if possible. Any information you could give me about it would be much appreciated. Thanks so much! Damarus52 (talk) 15:39, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Its photo made by Marcelin Flandrin in 1925. I found it on the web, precisely Google Image Search. Best regards Tom5551 (talk) 19:54, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for replying so fast! I'm really glad you captured the image when you did, because I've been unable to find it anywhere else other than this upload. The other versions of the photo seem to be of lower quality and a little grainy and do not have the caption underneath. The version that you have here seems to have more detail and you can tell it's from a book or some sort of physical media based on the caption at the bottom. Not sure where to go next on my search to find it, but thanks for the info and for helping preserve such an amazing picture! 97.84.91.114 20:37, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
