Categories for stamps versus postage stamps
[edit]Just an FYI but there was a CfD like last year where it was decided that images of postage stamps should go in categories for postage stamps instead of "stamps." Then the regular stamp categories can be used for other types of stamps besides one's usage for postage. Ergo, why Category:Postage stamps of Armenia existed (and exists again since I recreated it). So I'd appreciate it if you didn't go around needlessly deleting categories for postage stamps against the consensus. The same goes for changing things related to them on Wikidata's side. Thanks. - @Adamant1 It turns out that the categories Stamps and Postage stamps for one country can coexist and not be deleted? MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 04:45, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah I think so. There's a few countries where I don't think we have "stamp" categories because all the images are for postage stamps. In that case I'd say there's no reason to have both. But if there's images of both postage stamps and cinderella it makes sense to have a top level "stamps of country X" category in that case. I don't think we need a "stamp" category if all have is images of postage stamps for that country. Otherwise your just creating the categories as some kind of check the box excericse instead of because it serves an actual purpose. But that's just my own personal preference and I can't think of a country that would have postage as well as cinderella stamps anyway. Maybe North Korea? Who knows. But don't just create "stamp" (or any other reason) categories for no reason. That's all I'm saying. I don't control that anyway do I? --Adamant1 (talk) 05:09, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
