File:Back cover of "The Moons of Jupiter" (1991).jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

- Thank you for catching this. When I found the file on flickr, I double-checked to make sure it had an appropriate license (though not the validity of that license) and, FWIW, the image and its license did pass the initial upload check and pass muster with the initial bot scan that confirmed it.
- As a relatively new user, I'm sorry this happened; I'll be more diligent in checking licenses next time. I was acting in good faith, if perhaps not as carefully or sceptically as I should have been. TheScholemaster (talk) 02:07, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
Please re-read about copyright. You cannot just take images from around the web and upload them for re-use. If you have queries then please ask at Com:VP/C prior to uploading. Thanks. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:05, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- To be fair, I did not 'just take images from around the web and upload them for re-use'.
- I searched on flickr for images with appropriate licenses, which I then submitted to Wikimedia Commons through the flickr upload mechanism, which duly approved the licences from flickr. The images were then given an initial approval by a bot.
- In any case, thank you for removing the images. I transferred them from other people's flickr accounts in good faith, if not with maximum diligence. I assumed, apparently wrongly, that flickr wouldn't just leave up improperly licensed images for years on end. I will be more careful in future. TheScholemaster (talk) 02:16, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
