You seem to know what you're talking about when it comes to kana gifs and such.

As the headline says I'm hoping bugging you will help me solve my problem. I'd love to help you guys with the kana gif project but I can't seem to move from my 300 x 300 white square in GIMP. I can't import any kana into GIMP and I don't know why. My mac doesn't recognize the font that is included on the wikimedia site and the font that i have which seems exacly the same will not import itself into GIMP. The project tutorial is fairly vague for a beginner so not much luck there. If you have any solution I'd truly appreciate it. I'm so frustrated at this point. Thanks. Hi and thanks for your interest in the Commons:Stroke Order Project! I admit the guidelines are lacking and actually partly wrong... It seems nobody had enough time yet to update them :/ Anyway. I had the same issue some time ago and figured out that it was due to the font not having the right mappings for GIMP to use (which is a bug I reported, too).

I managed to convert the old fonts into variants which can be used with GIMP, see here. I checked and they're still up. The only problem is that these fonts do not contain Japanese glyphs on their own. For Japanese I have been using a combination of the three fonts and matched the correct glyphs for the Japanese pictures (cf. Chinese

直

to Japanese

直

).

However, in the mean time, I found other fonts which have a better scope for our project (full Unicode ranges we're working with) and are soon to be released with a Japanese variant -- containing Chinese glyphs for the kanji that are "unchanged" from their Chinese counterparts and new Japanese glyphs where appropriate.

For those, please check out AR PL UMing & AR PL UKai (Arphic public license fonts) and cf. with our Fonts page. Some of those can be found there, but I provided no direct links.

So, that's what I currently use:

1. AR PL UKai CN
2. set-up to so that the text field is 16px above the bottom edge (because some Ideograpgh go under the base line, so they would appear cut-off)

• However, I think I uploaded some with their baseline being the bottom edge itself. I didn't have time to check all this, but it shouldn't pose a big problem.

For your convenience, I uploaded my template for creating these pictures. You will have to install the AR PL fonts first, or it will not work. Download: Drop.io:SOP_redpng_template.

Thanks so much for the response. Sorry for replying so late. Not knowing the accepted question/response protocol, i didn't realize you'd replied until I checked my own page. I've downloaded the .io template files and will again try my hand at this font animation thing. Thanks for supplying those. Stroke Order Project Fonts

Hi there,

Commons:Stroke Order Project/Fonts § Simplified Chinese Hanzi notes that you created Unicode-mapped fonts for Simplified Chinese Hàntzŭ̀ for use with the Stroke Order Project; however, the link provided to download those fonts is now dead. If possible, I would greatly appreciate if you could update the link on that page to the correct one.

Hi 104.246.216.206, I just looked through all my backups from that time, but unfortunately I did not find the edited fonts. I presume I had stored them in my Windows fonts directory and just did not think to back them up :-/ If I do happen to come across them, I will update the Wiki pages, but I'm not really hopeful at this point :-/ Sorry to disappoint you --Tauwasser (talk) 19:35, 18 September 2020 (UTC)
