User talk:Targaryen/Archive
Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

File:Storingsbeeldsbs6.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Reinod
[edit]Special reason for creating a Category:Reinod and deleting the categories Ships by name for these ships ? The shipnames are with a number, both have different ENI numbers. --Stunteltje (talk) 22:41, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- Can both ships not be in a same category with subcategories? Categories shouldn't be too specific. Juvarra (talk) 22:46, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- We talk about different ships. Ships with more than one image have a category by name. Even some ships haven categories with just one image. See Category:Berlin (ships) --Stunteltje (talk) 23:33, 12 March 2011 (UTC)
- Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
- State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
- If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
- Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
- Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.
If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.
It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.
You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.
Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.
Thank you. This message was added automatically by Nikbot, if you need some help about it, please use the Commons:Help desk. --Filnik 23:54, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

File tagging File:Ad van den Berg.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Ad van den Berg.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. |

File:PNVDstyrelse.jpg
[edit]This picture does not have proper permission showing proof that the license was granted and I have tagged this image as well. This requires an e-mail to be sent to COM:OTRS to provide documentation. Warfieldian (talk) 17:00, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- The image was uploaded on 8 september 2006, nearly 5 years ago. Was the policy regarding the asking of permission the same in those days? It will be quite impossible to get permission as the party was dissolved soon after the upload date. SpeakFree (talk) 17:05, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure but I posted this question on the OTRS noticeboard. Warfieldian (talk) 17:16, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. SpeakFree (talk) 17:20, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Comment The Commons:OTRS page was created on 11 September 2006 [1], three days after the upload of File:PNVDstyrelse.jpg. SpeakFree (talk) 17:33, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- I didn't notice the date on this photo, but it makes sense that it would be grandfathered in since OTRS did not formally exist (even though it was just a few days before). I don't know the policy on this and will be interested to find out. Warfieldian (talk) 18:29, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
- Me as well. As you may have seen I commented on the notice board. SpeakFree (talk) 18:32, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.CategorizationBot (talk) 13:01, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Norland Town has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category. In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you! |

Commons:Requests for comment/Grandfathered old files
[edit]I don't think moving it to a separate page will help... The discussion would have been just fine on the relevant talk page. Problem seems to be lack of interest (possibly everyone's distracted with current dramas). Rd232 (talk) 22:40, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- I thought it would be better because the RFC section was below a whole previous discussion so people might tend to click away rather than scrolling to the relevant section. SpeakFree (talk) 22:46, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- aha. That could have been solved more easily with a section link (look at some of the other COM:CENT entries). Well, it's done now, it doesn't matter much. Rd232 (talk) 22:49, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
- Tried that but the discussion isn't long enough to display it on its own, you still get the beginning of the page if you link to it. SpeakFree (talk) 22:51, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Copyvio's.
Targaryen 20:21, 30 July 2012 (UTC)

Copyright status: File:Bloody Sunday 1920 ticket.jpg
[edit]This media may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading File:Bloody Sunday 1920 ticket.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |
