Wikimedia Commons does not accept derivative works of non-free works such as File:1st Charleroi.jpg. It only accepts free content, which is images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Reproductions of copyrighted works are also subject to the same copyright, and therefore this file must unfortunately be considered non-free. For more information, please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Freedom of panorama. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk.
The file you added has been deleted. If you believe that this file was not a derivative work of a non-free work, you may request undeletion.

- Hello, this page was created with OpenStreetMaps, which I saw was listed on the wiki page of free map sources acceptable for use in Wiki articles. I've tried, to the best of my understanding, to attribute the work to OpenStreetMaps as they requested on their page. The annotations on the map are mine alone. Is this still a problem then? - I referred to this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Maps/Source_materials as you had suggested previously in the Teahouse. Is this not enough? If not, please provide some suggestions as to how I may create a map that is acceptable. If none is forthcoming, I'll just create one from scratch if I have to. Thanks for uploading File:LambusartPositions.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.
If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.) If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there. Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you. |

- Hi, I don't really know what needs doing here, I'm not really very tech and code inclined and I seek help. I see that OSM, whose maps I used, are free use under a 2.0 licence--I've tried to add that tag in the picture description as well as a link to OSM's copyright page. Is it sufficient or correct? What else do I need to do? Talamioros (talk) 07:53, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- Correct license tag is just {{CC-BY-SA-2.0}} (see https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). {{Self}} is not applicable, because your maps are Commons:Derivative works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:27, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Eugene, I've spoken to another editor, bjh21, and gotten advice based on the resources I used to create the maps. I've updated all images I created with this methodology based on bjh21's advice and example. I trust this should be alright now; do check through and if it's okay, would appreciate if you could remove the deletion tag. Thank you! Talamioros (talk) 14:01, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
