Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content). You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump. |

Your uploads
[edit]Hello! You have uploaded several images as "own work" (File:George Amos Poole.jpg, File:George Amos Poole, Jr..jpg) which are clearly not your own work, in that you did not take the photographs (unless you were alive in 1918!). Mere scanning of a photograph does not constitute ownership, nor assume copyright from the creator, even if they are deceased. Can you provide more accurate source info, e.g. the book(s) or archives in which you found the images? It is likely that both are in the public domain, but in order to be sure, clear information on the date and location of publication is needed. If you are a legal representative or heir of the copyright holding person or institute, you should submit permission and evidence of your claim to OTRS for verification. If it cannot be demonstrated that the works are free (see Commons:Licensing), they may be subject to deletion. If you have additional questions, see the Commons:Village pump/Copyright and Help:Contents. Cheers, --Animalparty (talk) 22:27, 31 August 2019 (UTC)
