Picture of the Year contest

Hello. Thank you for your interest in the 2006 Picture of the Year contest. To vote, you must be an established Wiki editor with at least 100 edits registered either on your Commons or on your home wiki account (eg on one of the Wikimedia sites). You don't have 100 edits on your Commons account, but if you do on your home wiki, please add a diff pointing to a statement on your home wiki talk page which confirms your identity. Re: CC License

Salut Stéfan!

Thanx for uploading your pictures to commons! There are some very nice pictures in your Flickr sets!

The problem with this picture's license is not the difference between CC 2.0 and 2.5. If you want to use CC 2.5, you could simply put a note here on commons underneath the picture, that says you are the author of the image, CC 2.5 is your license of choice but you can't choose that on Flickr. I guess, any human Flickr-reviewer will understand that.

However this picture uses CC-BY-NC-SA on Flickr. As you probably know, NC stands for Non-Commercial. Licenses that allow only Non-Commercial use and Non-Derivative work (ND), are not allowed on commons, since our license policy strictly allows commercial use and derivative work.

If you would change your Flickr license to something without NC and ND, we could keep the picture here.

Hi. This image that you uploaded you list as CC-BY-SA-2.5 for it's licensing terms. However, you also claim (what appears to be) your Flickr page as the image's source. On the Flickr page, however, the photo is claimed to be licensed as CC-BY-NC-SA-2.0 - which is a license incompatible with Commons (the NC stands for "non-commercial" which means the image cannot be reused for commercial reasons (this is not allowed on Commons). You don't have to change anything on Flickr if you don't want to, but if this is, in fact, a photo that you took, can you change the source info to just "self-made" to no longer associate it with your Flickr account, where you have released it under the different license (it is fine to release a photo you took under different licenses, etc)? This is all assuming that you are OK with not releasing it under a non-commercial license. Thanks, Seidenstud 09:51, 21 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
