Nathaniel Longbotham House

[edit]

How did you get those shots of the Nathaniel Longbotham House? I tried to take them in 2015, but I wasn't able to find a place to park in order to get a good shot. ----DanTD (talk) 13:56, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for your interest! I just left a message on your talk page, worried that I accidentally removed a reference note from the version of this article prior to my edits this morning. To answer your question: I parked on a side road, right next to the house, and walked to the site. As I'm sure you know, it's not at all easy because of the traffic; I had to be very careful. I took a number of shots and uploaded four of them to Wikimedia commons. All four photos start with the phrase "Nathaniel Longbotham House..." if you want to look them up. Springfulutopia (talk) 14:39, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PS: These are the other three photos, in case you think one or more of these could be added to the page (or used instead of the one that I had uploaded):

Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States – Back for 2019!

[edit]
This user participated in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019.

Want to show your participation in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019? Add {{User Wiki Loves Monuments 2019}} to your userpage!

Hello! Last year you contributed to Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in the United States. Thanks to people like you it was a great success, with over 1,900 people contributing over 10,000 photos of cultural and historic sites from all over the country. Hundreds of these photos now help illustrate Wikipedia articles, improving our open knowledge about United States history, culture, and heritage. If you haven't seen the winners yet, be sure to check them out here.

I'm pleased to say that we're back this year with Wiki Loves Monuments 2019 in the United States, and I'd like to welcome you to participate once again in the event. Check out our updated event page for more information. Just like last year, you'll be able to upload your photos of any registered historical site in the United States through the end of September (even if the photos were taken before this month).

If you've traveled and taken photos of monuments in non-US countries, you can see if those countries are also participating here.

Once again, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2018, and we hope to see you again in this year's event! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 05:15, 1 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States 2019 – Last day to enter!

[edit]
This user participated in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019.
Want to show your participation in Wiki Loves Monuments 2019? Add {{User Wiki Loves Monuments 2019}} to your userpage!

September 30th is the last day to upload photos for Wiki Loves Monuments! We're thrilled that the United States has almost reached 4,000 contributions so far this year. Of these images, ~370 (~9%) have already been used to help illustrate Wikipedia articles and pages on other wiki projects, which is fantastic.

If you've already made a photo contribution this year, thanks so much! If you have any last-minute photos of U.S. historical sites to upload and enter into the contest, today's the day to do it. Check out the United States event page for more information. Judging will take place throughout the month of October, after which the top-ten national finalists will be announced in early November.

If you've traveled and taken photos of monuments in non-US countries, you can see if those countries are also participating here.

As always, thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments! If you'd like to respond to this message directly, please do so on on my talk page. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 05:49, 30 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

File:Welcome to Las Vegas; Drive Carefully, Come Back Soon.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Windrow self portrait.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

@JuTa: Thank you for this; the owner of the image gave me permission to use images and text from his website www.windrowgalleries.org. He sent permission to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, but for images, should I also ask him to send permission for images to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org? If so, I will ask him to do that immediately, and once he sends permissions, should I place the relevant code on the page, the one which shows that we are in the process of establishing permission? 67.84.150.254 10:49, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thats OK, but you should the corresponding license template of the copyrighters choice - see Commons:Copyright tags and indicate that such a mail was sent by adding {{subst:OP}} to the image description page. --JuTa 10:56, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
OK, will ask author to send email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org today, and once sent, I will update the license. PS: apologies for the IP signature above, I didn't realize I wasn't signed in. Springfulutopia (talk) 10:59, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JuTa: I added the code {{subst:OP}} to the image description page, and said that permission from the owner is pending an email which he will send to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Is this sufficient to indicate license is pending? Springfulutopia (talk) 18:06, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But the license is still missing. --JuTa 18:20, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JuTa: Yes, but don't I have to wait until the owner of the copyright sends the email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org before I use the "license template of the copyrighter's choice" ? Springfulutopia (talk) 20:06, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the file will get deleted after about a week. You should do that before... --JuTa 01:54, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JuTa: Thank you for all your attention to this situation. Can I ask you for clarification, on what exactly I should do? In your original message, you say "you should the corresponding license template of the copyrighters choice" but I am afraid I don't understand what you mean by this, in part because I think there is a verb missing (after the word "should") and also I don't know what "license template of the copyrighters choice" means. I would very much like to comply. My understanding from your immediate message above is that it is not enough to have the owner send a message to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org giving permission, nor is it enough to add the code {{subst:OP}} to let Commons know the permission is pending. I would greatly appreciate some clarification on exactly what it is I am supposed to do. Thank you so much, again, I truly appreciate your attention to this! Springfulutopia (talk) 18:08, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meamnt "you should add the corresponding license template of the copyrighters choice", like i.e {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}} - compare Commons:Licensing and Commons:Copyright tags. --JuTa 21:59, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@JuTa: Thank you so much; I researched the licenses, and determined that the one you suggested was appropriate, so I added it to the description of the image. Springfulutopia (talk) 13:33, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Sleeping jacqueline watermark.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Sleeping jacqueline watermark.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.
