Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

Buenos días, Josec92:

He recibido tus dos notificaciones de la violación del copyright de la imagen que lo he editado desde el Google Street View, en este caso, el fichero (Enlace de La Parroquia de la autovía A-91.jpg) lo saqué de Google Street View, pero al haber información que aparece en esta imagen, tuve que reducir la imagen y se deja sin información para que aparezca como una foto. El autor es Google y he puesto la fuente del origen de la imagen, eso no lo he violado el copyright. ¿Puede ser el problema del autor que lo he puesto mal?

Hola buenas noches, sí, puse dos avisos de violación de copyright y un administrador las revisó y borró. Aquí en Commons no están permitidas las fotografías con derechos de autor, no importando si se indica autor o fuente, que en tu caso lo pusiste de forma clara. Solo se permiten imágenes con licencias libres (y no todas, también hay excepciones). Yo cuando empecé también subía fotos así y también me las borraban porque no entendía mucho como funcionaba todo esto.

Así pues, en líneas generales, solo se permiten:

• Fotos propias que hayas hecho tú.
• Fotos de otros pero que permiten reutilización (por ejemplo La Moncloa según su aviso legal permite usar sus imágenes siempre que se cite la autoría, como se puede ver en esta imagen y en la licencia usada -> File:Pedro Sánchez participa en la Cumbre de la OTAN (primera jornada) (6).jpg.
• Fotos de otros pero con permiso del autor. Complicado puesto que hay que escribir al autor y que te de permiso o cambie la licencia de la imagen que quieres subir.
• Fotos de Flickr con licencia libre compatible. No vale cualquiera, solo algunas como puedes ver aquí.
• Fotos en dominio público, generalmente antiguas, donde los derechos de autor han caducado. (Ejemplo -> File:Teatro Guerra (Lorca-Murcia 1868).jpg).

Antes, cuando yo empecé, no se permitían logos pero ahora han levantado más la mano y se catalogan con la licencia del tipo "como es simple y no llega al umbral de originalidad no tiene copyright". En mi opinión se abusa bastante de esto y hay algunos muy al límite, pero bueno, de momento se permite.

Yo solo puse dos avisos pero mirando tus imágenes subidas creo que salvo el cajetín de la N-130 las demás podrían borrarlas, aunque habría que ver caso por caso. Si tienes alguna pregunta no dudes en escribirme. Saludos. Josec92 (talk) 21:46, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
