Hi Docu, the lake of Canadas episode is another example as is the manner in which you just replied to Mbdortmund. The first eerie feeling I got about this, was when we discussed file annotations on File talk:Crissy Field beach and Golden Gate Bridge.jpg. I would also consider it normal to respond to users comments on your RFA like the one I have about archiving talk pages. It is as if you did not hear that comment. Hi Docu. Concerning the lakes: You are not hearing what is said there, that it is an experiment to try out an alternative. It is not the first time we try to make experiments in main category space, and I have never seen anyone else complain about it than you. Rocket had conducted navigation experiments in the realm of living organisms, and this has been a fruitful process to test and discuss new concepts, and has helped improving taxonavigation. You cannot really do these experiments in user space, as you do not categorize a whole lot of images to user space just to try something out. All other users there ask for a consensus to be seeked, you just ask it to be removed again, over and over and over again. Moreover, you say to Foroa that maybe he should discuss with a more experienced user. Well, Foroa is one of the most experienced users on Commons, especially when it comes to categories. So that is a comment I would perceive provocative, and not helping to reach an agreement.

Concerning the comment on your RFA, which was not asked as a question: Fair enough, it is not clear that a reply would be natural. Anyway, I would like to hear your opinion about it.  Question Why to you blank your talk page instead of archive it??

Thank you for telling me about the browser warning regarding my slightly long talk page. I have adjusted the archiving bot settings, such that it does not leave inactive threads for such a long time, so on the next run, it should have decreased substantially in size.

I do not know if you have ever tried to read w:Wikipedia:Tendentious editing. I would recommend reading it, and while you go along, ask yourself the same questions as in that essay.

I'm not quite sure what to say about your comparison, but if you disagree with bdk's assessment of the experiment, you should probably say so on that talk page. If you agree with him, you don't really do justice to Rocket's work on taxon categories and you probably missed that he create quite a few categories in the field before and after anything that might be experimental. I'm not quite sure if/how w:Wikipedia:Tendentious editing would apply to Commons and discussing other user's contributions to Commons here in its terms is hardly productive. BTW thanks for fixing the archiving of your talk page. It's much better now. You might want to spread the word to other users and help them with archiving long talk pages. -- User:Docu at 08:15, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Docu,

I have no strong opinions about the particular experiment. I see it more as a particular example of where, a likely quite sensible point and argumentation is being missed, because other users get annoyed at the way the point is being made. bdk himself states that a consensus has to be sought, but because you mention getting rid of it again and again, this distracts from actually getting the consensus. And that is a pity as I often see valid points you have have being lost/ignored due to the approach taken by you. At least that is how I perceive it, others may see it differently. I guess that must be frustrating for you? My objective with writing about that with you is an attempt to try and help you understand why you often meet resistance to your point of views.

For instance, it is always a good idea to leave a door open, such that people can - during the course of a discussion - change their opinion, without feeling they have lost. Only few likes to loose. So if you insist on deleting now, and the final consensus will be that the experiment is not a productive one, the users who have done the experiment has lost. And that is a bad thing. Better to make the user feels he has won, by making him reach the right conclusion himself. In that manner it is a win-win situation. The reason why I brought up w:Wikipedia:Tendentious editing was not to imply that it applies to Commons. It was merely meant as an aid in helping yourself understand these unfortuate user interactions. When I read it, I thought it could be useful for you, to get improved self-insight. I realize now, from your response that you may feel this is a bit too intruding, that you perhaps never really looked for feedback on your conduct. If that is the case I do apologize that I brought it up.

Concerning talk pages and their length, I do mention it from time to time (not recently though) when I enter other users talk pages, and I find them veeery long. A question about a VIC scope

Hello Slaunger, May I please ask your opinion about the scope of this VIC ? I really don't know if it a "suitably generic scope". It seems to me that "Photograph of flags of Luxembourg" is too narrow, and that the simpler "Flags of Luxembourg" would be preferable. I hesitate because in any case where the scope is "Flag of X", the VI should be an illustrative SVG picture, shouldn't it? --Myrabella (talk) 07:50, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Eye spot on a butterfly wing, taken by my husband from a living insect in the Botanical garden in Munich

Hi Kim, today we have snow plus rain, tomorrow we'll reach about 10 degrees and thursday (my birthday) there will be sun! So at last I'll put the snow shovel into the garage!

I can very well imagine you with your underwater camera diving in the Caribbean Sea and meeting a fish (of course the fish is able to speak French); Kim: "Bonjour, mon joli Scorpaena plumieri, tu as un peu de temps? Ça a toujours été mon souhait le plus cher de prendre une photo d'un poisson aussi superbe que toi. Alors, au fond, c'est très simple. Fais bien attention, il faut faire comme ça: remuer de queue, ouvrir la bouche, pousser quelques bulles d'air... compris? Exactement! T'as bien réussi! Je n'aurais pas fait mieux. He, he. Well, I think I should be lucky if I saw the Spotted Scorpionfish. It is found at depths 5-50 m as far as I understand, and very, very well camoflaged. Moreover, I am only going to be snorkling as I do not have a divers certificate. In addition, the underwater camera is really an "amateur" underwater camera and only designed for depths down to 3 m. It would be nice though if such a photo could be taken, as we do not have any photos of Commons of that fish in vivo.

Very beautiful and detailed photograph of a detail of a wing on a butterfly. When seeing it I am amazed that it was taken in 1998? I would have thought it was a very recent shot as judged by the resolution and image quality. Unfortunately, I do not have a macro lens for my DSLR (yet), that was sacrificed in this round for the underwater camera. And unfortunately my birthday is not coming up before the trip...as yours is. So photos of tiny critters will have to be done with my compact camera. Thank you for your nice wishes. It is a lot of expectations you are setting up there - outstanding photos.... You solved the mystery of the Scorpaena plumieri, congratulations! And you could translate my French too, very linguistically talented as you are. The Ceratocanthus schoepfii is a very beautiful triggerfish in the Caribbean Sea (in German Orangefeilenfisch), about 65 cm long. It has a bizarre shape, orange colour with many spots, a thick and rough skin like a file and a huge red spine on the head. - Now to the photo: It is a freehand snapshot and was taken in 1998 with a NIKON F4 and NIKON macro-lens 1:2,8/105mm, working at step 8-11. The film was a Kodak slidefilm 100 ASA. In the last few days my husband converted the slide into JPG with his NIKON D90 and NIKON macrolens 1:2,8/60mm. This is why it is so sharp. Every springtime in the Botanical Garden we have an exposition of exotic butterflies; they hatch out of their pupa and fly around in a green house. - I think I'll add the photographic items to the description in Commons (there are three pictures of this eye spot, the last almost like from a microscope, but it is only a simple enlargement). Well, my husband isn't only a painter on glass, but also a photographer; in the company he worked he had to take pictures of all the big and little produced stained-glass windows for churches, cathedrals, private houses and so on for 45 years. Also, he is an amateur astronomer and has thousands of photos from moon, sun, planets, eclipses... And of course on holidays or in our garden he has always a camera on himself. - Now I think you will have much to do with packing your bags. Re: Translation Créole guadeloupéen -> Francais

Hello !!! You are absolutely right ! this sign reads "Drive slower, There are children playing there !" but Creole is a metaphoric language. The litteral translation into French is " Lève ton pied, il y a des enfants qui jouent là". But someone speaking French and not Creole would not understand. So the good translation into French is "Ralentissez, zone fréquentée par des enfants". I hope I could help you, it's a pleasure. Nice picture ;) I hope you spend great times in Guadeloupe, Ste-Anne is a beautiful city.
