There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Watermarks

[edit]

Hi Savi.odl, please respect Commons:Watermarks and do NOT add watermarks to your images! -- Ies (talk) 15:54, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Watermarks again

[edit]

Hi Savi.odl, don't you understand that visible watermarks are discouraged, as they detract from the usability of a work? -- Ies (talk) 16:13, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to upload a version with no watermark but it is not allowing! How do I do it? Savi.odl (talk) 20:46, 9 August 2021 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Savi.odl (talk • contribs) 20:40, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Savi - to upload a new version, go to the file in question, and scroll down to 'Upload a new version of this file' (just below the File History section). Click on that, and it gives you an upload form which directs a new upload onto the old one automatically. Hope this helps! Any more queries, give me a ping. - MPF (talk) 21:16, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi MPF: This is what I get as warning, "This is an exact duplicate of........". And when I say 'upload anyway', it does not! Savi.odl (talk) 04:17, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Odd! I can't explain that - but if this is the file File:PicazuroPigeonDSC04604 250813 buenosaires.jpg, you have been successful in the upload :-) MPF (talk) 16:01, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Savi.odl!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Categories

[edit]

Hi Savi - some tips on categories, if I may:

  • Category:Bird is a redirect to Category:Birds, so should not be used
  • Each species has its own category; this uses the scientific name following the IOC World Bird List classification, so for e.g. File:Crab Plover at Balachadi, Jamnagar, Gujarat AMSM7065.jpg, this needs to be at Category:Dromas ardeola, or subcategories as applicable (e.g. [Category:Genus species in flight] for flying birds of a species).
  • Files should only be at one point in the category tree; when a file is in Category:Birds of Jamnagar, it should not also be in Category:Birds of Gujarat (as Jamnagar is part of Gujarat), nor in Category:Birds of India (as Gujarat is in turn, part of India). Similarly, they should also not it be in Category:Jamnagar, as the birds of Jamnagar are automatically within Jamnagar. This applies all the way to the top, so they should also not be in Category:Birds: think how overcrowded and unusable Category:Birds would be, if all 100,000++ bird photos on Commons were put in it! So always go for the most detailed category that applies. See COM:OVERCAT for more details.

Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 13:15, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks MPF. I'm learning. Let me first upload the bird images (as many as I can, otherwise they will just get left out - I have a little time these days!) and give as many categories I can. Later I will concentrate on adding more categories to each image and making it more sensible. I will leave out Bird as a category from now. I need a little time to understand and do it. Thanks for guidance Savi.odl (talk) 15:22, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. This is a dalmation penguin, so you should change the file name. Charlesjsharp (talk) 16:27, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
